Bought it with Humble Bundle, only got Steam Key

Marco Hellmann Sep 10, 2014 01:59PM BST

Hello there,

I recently bought the Humble Indie Bundle 12. My Steam account is connected to my Humble Bundle Account, so Steam Keys are activated automatically. However, I wanted to register my copy of Prison Architect but I don't have the "Click here for your Prison Architect key" as shown on your screenshot.
What do I need to do to register my copy of the game with you?

Kind regards

Nevermind, I found a solution myself. To anyone seeking advice: Right click on Prison Architect in your Steam Games Library, "View CD Key", copy and paste it into the provided field. Voilá, it's registered.

Kind regards

I also bought Humble Bundle 12, but I used the Installer and so it's not connected to steam to use this solution.
How do I find out my Prison Architect key? (And no, I will not use the Steam version, I'm a DRM-free Fan!)

I also registerd my HB with Steam, and when I check the CD Key, mine starts with PSTEAM, and is therefore rejected. It says "The key you entered looks like a Steam Standard Edition key, please enter a Steam Name in Game key or the email address you used to buy the game. Please visit if you need further help."

Then I try my Steam Name and get "Name in Game registration failed, please try again later or visit if this problem persists".

Finally I try my email address. I get "There was no Name in Game order found for that email address, if this is incorrect please visit".

This is obviously quite frustrating to find myself stuck like this.

I have the same problem. Access to the Introversion Alpha section would be great, but I don't want to register a Steam account only for that. Humble Bundle support doesn't respond on my requests as well.

Contacted support.

What you need to do is go to Registering your details there, and enter your steam key. Then you'll be able to go to and download the latest version directly to your computer.

Hi Sam,

The solution you suggested still requires having a Steam account because Humble doesn't display the key but connect to Steam only. Regular purchase from Humble Store of PA provides a non-Steam option for displaying the key. Please do the same For those who purchased game in the Bundle.

As above with M, Humble does not display the steam key. We really need to access our keys without using steam.

The other alternative is that Introversion each month update the file available to the purchasers of HB 12 so when they check their HB 12 pack they would see the update.

Please please fix this. :(

as EB eluded to, we're still out in the cold if not using steam. installing steam is not a fix; the only reason i continue to support the HIB releases is due to their explicit 'DRM Free' claims.

please provide registration keys through HIB12, or update the assets in the HIB download area.

i for one, would not have purchased the HIB12 knowing that updates for PA would not be provided as they have been for other HB purchases and the prior introversion bundle releases.

In the same boat. Contacted support, who informed me that they will probably not be replying to me for seven days.

I also sent an email to support asking for the DRM free key. Let's see who gets the reply first and how long it takes :-)

Support replied. They didn't read a single line of the support request, instead just told me to visit .

My forum account requires manual activation, so I can't proceed with step one. Same problem as discussed here:

Even if the account was activated, the Humble Store did not provide the required key.

I am also in the same boat as Geisterkarle, Shind, alex, Tof, EB, M, and J...

I purchased the Humble Bundle 12 to get Prison Architect. I want access to the forum, wiki, alpha builds, etc. However, I have NO desire to use a Steam code or account in order to register Prison Architect, as I use the downloaded installer.

I relayed both points to Support via email, but their response was to "register the key [I] received from humble." I replied back immediately to tell them I have received no key/code from Humble that allows me to register. 3 days later, but no response yet... I will update if I get one within the week.

Additionally, the problem is made worse by the downloadable installer on the Humble Bundle downloads page being OUTDATED. The installer is still Alpha build 24 (updated Sept 2). Thus I am unable to play the new update.

Please fix these issues.

I just sent a reply to support begging them to please read the email carefully as it looked like they just sent a standard response....

I suggested they simply upload the latest PA to humble bundle 12 so once a month we go there and download it.

The lack of communication disappoints me a little,I know they are small but it has been over a month now. :(

I posted on the forums, hopefully support will see that.
I'm really worried.

I fear the only way out might be to have to buy PA again. :(

I posted here trying to get a reply

THey replied but sent me to steam again. I'm afraid they are not listening, I explained it clearly but no good.

Also I replied but they put me on post moderation for some reason. I don't understand.

I'm afraid I will have to buy it again.

I don't like steam very much(an understatement) so don't think of me as a shill or some bullshit.

"I'm afraid I will have to buy it again."

What?... Is it really worth giving more money(lowest is $30 for the base game) to the company that caused this problem to begin with?

What exactly is your vendetta against steam? why not just make a steam account with a bunch of made up info and a throwaway email, get the serial number, and then abandon the account.

I know making a steam account seems a little extreme just to fix a stupid problem, but buying the game a second time seems even more extreme to me.

I'm playing the DRM free version right now. I don't plan to get the key from steam until alpha 26(bug bash)is released.

Hello Omin

I totally agree with you that it seems a bit extreme to have to buy it again but there is no way I will ever set up steam, temporarily or otherwise. The list is long and everytime I explain it, people all go "I see, that explains it I see why you never want to touch steam". I don't want to install it on my computer EVER. I don't want any remenants of it etc.

I understand this does not explain it to you but I just wanted to avoid a long post of explanation which are not really relevant to people here or work toward solving the problem. If we can move on with the notion and accept that my reasons as solid and sound for me at least, that would be great. :)

The PA version I am playing is the HB 12 one which was Alpha 25 which I was really enjoying.

I have supported introversion since the very start with uplink and have bought it many times over to support them, (on GOG, HB etc) I have done the same with their other titles. Whilst this may sound odd, I was a giant fan of introversion and this is the first time I have encountered issues which I must say is very disappointing.

I am waiting more to see what Introversion does but I am sadly not confident at this stage. All they really need to do is upload their new build to HB 12 once a month and the problem is solved however we would not have forum access. HB only gives steam keys now if you connect to steam, this caused the problem in the first place.

I understand your point completely and I understand it sounds completely nuts but I will never relent with steam. EVER.

Alright I understand, and support you.

You guys have contacted both Introversion and Humble? neither of them we're able to figure this out?

Introversion have been releasing updates every month for what, over a year? Did anyone put even a little bit of thought into this?

Hello Omin,

I have not personally contacted HB but I have contacted Introversion as did others as you can see from the thread but we received standard answers which clearly did not read what we were asking unfortunately.

It looks like introversion did not know HB will not give keys unless people actually sign up for steam or maybe they don't see it as a big deal, install steam, get the key, uninstall steam.

Sadly for some of us this *IS* a big deal.

All we can do is wait and if nothing happens, we need to think "do I want to buy PA again" because it might be the only way out :( Not ideal I know and I agree, I would expect more from Introversion. Lets see how we go.

For now it's the waiting game. :(

Anyone who wishes to be activated without using Steam can email with their humble bundle receipt and we will get you activated. Apologies for not giving you this fix earlier.

Fantastic news. Thank you so much introversion.

I had a look at my emails, the email I received from Hunble Bundle did not have any receipt number, it was only giving my humble key so I can't give this out of course. I gather the receipt you want is the payment receipt, I checked and this has a HB12 transaction ID. I shall send this to support.

Wish me luck everyone. :)

Sadly what I was suspecting may still happen.
I gave them my receipt from Paypal proving I purchased the bundle but this was not enough, they wanted my HB receipt.

There was no HB given, all I had was an email from the bundle giving me my key, so I copied that email minus the key as I cannot give that out for seurity reasons.

I am now expecting the worse. The Paypal receipt has all the proof of purchase, the HB receipt shows nothing except welcome to the bundle click here to claim your games so it is your key which you can never give out.

I can't believe this is still so hard ! <sigh>

Well there you have it.

I gave them my paypal receipt which proces I purchased it.
No good.

I give them a cut and paste of my email from humble bundle without showing my key as it is a security risk.

No good.

Unbelievable ! There is nothing I can give them they will accept. Paypal shows the purchase CLEARLY.

I cannot give them my email from humble bundle because it shows my link and my access key which we are supposed to keep COMPLETELY confidential.

I am really at a complete loss at how unhelpful they are. I really can't believe it.

Earl, the problem is that I cannot access that PayPal transaction because you paid to Humble and not Introversion's account. It is fine for you to send me the humble email but you have refused to do so. There is no point keeping it secret from us when we're the ones who make the game! If you either forward your humble receipt OR PayPal transaction email I will gladly help you. I'm not trying to be unhelpful on purpose but you must understand that we get a lot of people trying to get something for nothing and I have to try to authenticate purchases.

Hello Sam,

Understood. I did not know you could not verify via paypal.
Your requests are completely understandable now it has been explained.

I also understand you must indeed get lots of people trying things on so you are forced to accept only certain forms. Completely understandable.

Just for fairness I want to let people here know that I did indeed cut and paste information from paypal I should have just forwaded it. It was from a different email address I used so I cut and pasted because I thought you could check paypal transaction ID. Now that you say you cannot this makes perfect sense.

I think the best way forward is just for me to buy it again directly from you.

I acknowledge you have given options but I will not forward information that contains my open HB key for security reasons because it leaves security wide open. I acknowledge this is my choice and that you have given options.

This coupled with the fact I was going to buy it again anyway because I wanted to support introversion, the simplest way forward is just to do that.

No hard feelings, you need to protect yourselves....this was indeed an unfortuanate combination of events. We all thoughHB would display keys and/or introversion would just update to HB12 once a month.

Kind regards
